All successful blogs talk about food.

I’m that artist. If you live with one, you understand. My family is used to asking me before they eat anything.

“Mom, is this pear for art or for eating?”

“Have you gotten enough source photos of the bacon or do we have to wait?”

Making art from food is not only relatable, it is really good practice. I was recently teaching a group of students how to make their art look dimensional and we were painting apples and pears. It’s good because fruit is something as common as your hand. You think you know what an apple looks like, just as you are sure you know what your hand looks like. But if you stop and REALLY look at your hand or that pear that’s got one more day before its spoiled, how easy (or hard) is it to draw? One of the essential parts of developing your skills as an artist is to train your eyes to see what you ACTUALLY see…not what you think you see.

Over at the Happy Camper Art Club we will be doing some fun exercise that helps your hand and your brain work together. Bring the kids and join us in some family fun activities.
